Autumn / Winter 2002 - 2003
Coldest Temperatures Reported so far in North and Central Georgia

Georgia's first widespread freeze of the 2002 - 2003 winter season occurred Sunday night (Nov 17 - 18, 2002). Another outbreak of cold air swept across the state the following weekend (Nov 23 - 24) which pushed temperatures in some areas to new lows for the season. On Nov 28 and 29, another shot of cold air pushed readings in some areas even lower, with a number of locations experiencing their first "hard freeze" (temperatures below 25 degrees F.) The cold front that followed brought even colder air on Dec 2.

In the wake of the season's first ice storm, temperatures dipped again (Dec 7 & 8). Another cold snap occurred just after Christmas. January dealt Georgia a hard freeze statewide on the 18th, but an even colder airmass invaded the state on the 24th, when readings in the single digits were common in many northern counties.

Below is a map showing the coldest temperatures reported so far this season. Move your pointer over the temperature to display the station name and the most recent date the temperature occurred. Note: a ' # ' after the date indicates that the low temperature occurred during the previous 24 hours... perhaps during the previous day. For official historical data, contact the National Climatic Data Center.
