The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City will begin to transfer its website to a Content Management System (CMS) in the upcoming weeks. The CMS is necessary to help websites run more reliably and allow members of the National Weather Service staff to quickly update content. Without the CMS, there is no backup should the regional web server fail. The CMS allows sites to be mirrored on servers located in other regions. If one server goes down, the others can take over and keep sites running. That's the good news!
With any big change, there will likely be some adjustments. The biggest adjustment will be address changes. Bookmarks will be impacted! Many addresses on the old website were formatted like this...
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ffc/climate.php (old link to climate page)
Most addresses will change to this format...
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ffc/?n=climate (new link to climate page)
A file will be created to redirect those who bookmarked old pages to the new ones. This redirection method will be left in place for several months after the transition. There are several dated and seldom viewed pages that will no longer exist. In this case, you will be forwarded to the main page.
Rest assured we will be doing our best to make this transition as painless as possible for the loyal visitors to our site. We will make every effort to include all of the content you expect to see on our website. If you have any question, comments or concerns, please let us know. Email us at email@example.com.
We will include more specific dates on our website as they are known.
Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding!
