Mobile Home Safety Rules

  • Mobile homes should always be tied down. If not tied down, mobile homes can be "rolled" by a sudden gust of wind from a thunderstorm.
  • A mobile home, even if tied down, can not withstand the violence of a tornado and should be abandoned whenever a tornado is approaching. Some families leave their mobile homes and visit friends or relatives who live in more substantial structures when conditions favor tornado development. Tornado watches are issued when this is the case. If you remain in your mobile home and a tornado warning is issued, you should immediately go to the mobile home park's community shelter...or be prepared to make a dash for the nearest ditch or ravine. That's right...your chances are better lying in a ditch than staying inside the mobile home!
