by Lans Rothfusz and Matt Sena
[ radar image at time of tornado ] A tornado struck Chattahoochee County on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, producing moderate damage to portions of the Fort Benning Army Base. Several people (at least six) were also injured. The tornado hit around 3 PM EST as part of the same storm system that produced several tornadoes in Alabama.

Meteorologists Lans Rothfusz and Matt Sena from the NWS Forecast Office in Peachtree City surveyed the damage and found it to be consistent with that caused by an F1 tornado on the Fujita intensity scale. They reported...

Moderate damage within the main post area along a 1.5 mile long... 150 yard wide path starting at the intersection of Sightseeing Road and Lavoy Road. Mainly roof damage to about 10 warehouses built before World War II along Wold Ave. An 18-wheel truck was blown over and two vehicles were damaged by falling roof debris. Damage also occurred in the McDonald Manor housing area, where six homes were damaged from large falling trees and branches.
