The National Weather Service will issue
a "Certificate of Authority for Pilot Weather Briefing" when the
employee successfully passes examinations in the following areas:
1.
Weather Analysis
2.
Satellite
3.
WSR-88D Weather Radar
4.
Pilot Weather Briefer Oral Exam
A passing score
of 70 percent or better is required
on all four exams. If the student fails an exam, the exam may
be retaken about two weeks after the failure. The oral exam
will be completed after the employee completes on the job training
and both the employee and supervisor feel they are ready to take
the oral exam.
In addition,
the National Weather Service issues a "Tower Visibility Observers
Certificate" for those personnel involved with augmenting surface
observations. The passing score on this certification exam is
80 percent.
