Unseasonably Cold Weather for Early October 2000
October 2000 began with temperatures much above normal; however,
the unseasonably warm weather, with afternoon highs in the 90s
for several days did not last long. After setting ALL-TIME
highs in early September at Austin and San Antonio and an ALL-TIME
September high at Del Rio, the weather
of October 6 to 9, 2000 was significantly cooler.
On Friday October 6th a strong cold front moved through South Central
Texas, bringing unseasonably cold weather in its wake. Initially widely
scattered rain and showers formed ahead of and along the quick moving
cold front. After the front moved through in the morning, cooler
temperatures followed in the afternoon, followed by much colder
conditions later in the day and Friday night. On the weekend of the 7th and 8th,
continuous northerly winds, cloudy skies, and occasional rain made for
much colder weather across South Central Texas. Widespread rains
affected the area. The cold and damp weather continued on Monday
the 9th.
