October 2007 Weather in Review
|
The first 21 days of October 2007 was unseasonably warm,
extending a period of warmth that had began in the mid
to late part of September, when drier conditions began to
replace the wet conditions that were so common in January
and again from March through early September. October 2007
was moving toward being the warmest October;
however, this changed quickly the night of the 21st to
the morning of the 22nd, when a strong cold front came
through the area, bringing cooler days. Dry, autumn like conditions
stayed over the area from the the 23rd to the 30th. Warmer afternoon
highs came the 31st, ahead of a cold front that moved across the
area the night of the 31st and early morning of November 1st.
Even with moderated temperatures in the late part
of the month, the month
still ended up the 8th warmest October at Austin Mabry;
the 17th warmest at Del Rio;
and a tie for the 23rd warmest at San Antonio, with October of
1938 and 1954.
The last half of the month brought the
warmest and coolest temperatures.
The warmest days came the 17th and 18th, while the
coolest early morning lows came the 23rd to the 26th.
Monthly rainfall was drier than normal everywhere, except the
extreme east and southeast part of the area, where more numerous showers
and thunderstorms left moderate to heavy rainfall
on the 15th, 16th and the 22nd.
During October 2007, rain events came from the
night of October 7th to October 8th; October 9th; October 14th;
October 15th to the morning of the 16th; and during the night
of the 21st to the 22nd. The heaviest rains fell in Lavaca County from
the 15th through the morning of the 16th, when rainfall
amounts near 2 to 11 inches fell. Another rain event
came with the strong cold front the night of the 21st
to the 22nd; when 1 to 2 inches fell over Travis County
and 1 to 3.76 inches fell over Bastrop County. The heaviest
rain was 3.76 inches 4.4 miles south, southeast of Elgin.
