SOUTHERLY GULF BREEZES CLIMATOLOGICALLY WEAKEN IN AUGUST...
DAYTIME HIGHS CAN BE HOTTER THAN JULY IN SOME YEARS...WITH
SLIGHTLY COOLER NIGHTS. FROM AN AVERAGE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE
VIEW...THE LATEST 30 YEAR NORMAL SHOWS AUGUST HIGHS TO BE A LITTLE
WARMER AT AUSTIN MABRY...THE SAME AT AUSTIN BERGSTROM...SLIGHTLY LESS
AT DEL RIO...AND SLIGHTLY WARMER AT SAN ANTONIO FOR AUGUST COMPARED
TO JULY. THE AVERAGE MINIMUM IS LESS IN AUGUST THAN JULY AT ALL 4

COOLEST OF RECORD FOR DEL RIO AND AUSTIN BERGSTROM.
FOR SAN ANTONIO JULY OF 1976 TIED WITH JULY 1903 FOR THE
COOLEST JULY OF RECORD. AT AUSTIN MABRY JULY 1976 WAS THE
4TH
COOLEST OF RECORD. JULY 1907 WAS THE COOLEST OF RECORD FOR THE
AUSTIN CITY CLIMATE LOCATION...NOW AUSTIN MABRY.
ALTHOUGH MANY SUMMERS OVER PARTS OF CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL
TEXAS HAVE BEEN HOT AND DRY...LIKE ANY OTHER SEASON OF THE
YEAR...SOME SUMMERS HAVE BEEN VERY WET WITH FLOODING.
JUST IN THE PAST 10 YEARS...FLOODS CAME TO THE AREA IN
JUNE 1993...AUGUST 1994... JUNE 1997...AUGUST 1998...JUNE 2000...
LATE AUGUST OF 2001...AND LATE JUNE TO MID JULY 2002.
DURING A DRY YEAR OVERALL IN 1988...RAINFALL CAME TO THE AREA
IN JUNE...JULY AND AUGUST. BEFORE
SUMMER ENDED IN SEPTEMBER OF 1988...THE REMNANTS OF HURRICANE
GILBERT AFFECTED THE AREA...AND BROUGHT ADDITIONAL RAIN.
