In the dry period that has been ongoing over the area for the
past 16 months, since April 2005, total monthly rainfall for most places
across South Central Texas was below average again in July 2006,
except over the southeast part of the area, where above
average rainfall was observed.
One pattern that continued to show up since June 1st, was more rain
over the southeast part of South Central Texas. In July 2006 more rain
area wide was observed east and south of a line from near Lee and
Fayette Counties to Wilson ann Karnes Counties. To the west of this
line very dry conditions, typical for July, continued, with a few locations over
the eastern hill country showing rainfall near to slightly above average. Del Rio
picked up only 0.01 inches of rain, a tie for the 6th driest July of record with
July of 1944. See Monthly Rainfall Graphic for July 2006 rainfall
For the year, more rains showed up in the winter over the north part of
the area and this trend continued to part of the spring. By summer the
heavier rains shifted to the southeast part of the area.
