HAZARDOUS WINTER WEATHER...HOW YOU CAN PREPARE YOURSELF BEFORE AND AFTER IT ARRIVES

 


Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or your local television or radio stations for the LATEST weather information.

When winter storms approach have available:

Be sure to ALWAYS dress appropriately when going out into cold wintery weather. Heavy coats, hats, boots and gloves are a MUST in avoiding frostbite and exposure.

Avoid driving during snowstorms, blizzards or freezing rain events.

If you absolutely must drive remember to proceed at slow speeds on snow or ice covered roads.

If you plan to drive in a winter storm you should take along at least the following items:

  • Blankets and sleeping bags
  • First aid kits
  • Flashlights with extra batteries
  • High calorie non-perishable food
  • A shovel
  • Booster cables
  • Compass and road maps
  • Water
  • If available a cell phone or two-way radio

REMEMBER...While only light snow may be falling in the lower elevations heavy snow or even blizzard conditions may be occurring over mountain passes.
