The Tower Completion
(group 6)
| The final picture of the Doppler Radar Construction.
This is basically how the sight looks now. Of course there was still
much more to be done to get the radar operational. In the foreground
the larger building is the RDA, earlier shown. The smaller building,
to the right, is the diesel generator that powers the radar in the
event of commercial power failure.
As you can imagine...this radar is visible at quite a long
distance away from the office since it sits atop a mesa, and is
silhouetted each evening in the western skies of El Paso. |

| Here is a collage of our facilities in Santa Teresa,
NM (just west of El Paso, TX). In the background are the Franklin
Mountains which run directly through the city of El Paso. The Rio
Grande Valley and River lie between the office and the mountains.
Also in the background is the upper-air building, with its tracking
dish and dome perched atop. The dark figure, in the sky, above the
building is actually a weather balloon just being released.
