TRANSCRIBED WEATHER BROADCAST ROUTE FORECAST

PRODUCT: Transcribed Weather Broadcast (TWEB) Route Forecast

REFERENCE: WSOM Chapter D-30

ISSUED BY: All NWS Forecast Offices

PURPOSE: To assist pilots in preflight and enroute planning. The forecast provides expected conditions (sky condition, cloud tops, surface visibility, weather and obstructions to visibility, and significant surface wind) along and 25 nautical miles either side of a specified route. TWEB route forecasts are disseminated via appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) communications systems, including low frequency navigational aids.

CHANGES: Significant restructuring of the route system is expected to be implemented soon based on revised requirements from the FAA. Over 100 route forecasts are slated to be discontinued.

Southern Region Headquarters is currently preparing a ROML to set forth directives for transferring responsibility for some of the remaining route forecasts to NWSOs.
