RADAR COORDINATION

PROGRAM:  Radar Coordination

REFERENCE: WSOM Chapter C-40

PERFORMED BY: All Warning Offices

PURPOSE:  The need for radar coordination among warning offices has been and will be a vitally important phase of our warning operations.  While the WSR-88D has performance far superior to our earlier radars, the need for radar coordination between offices still exists.

CHANGES:  The latest revision of WSOM C-40 describes the actions to be taken by WSR-88D equipped offices.  These concepts certainly hold true, due to the “cone of silence” found near RDA unit locations.

COMMENTS: All offices should be proactive in relaying radar data to nearby sites.  Such coordination should be made by the fastest means possible.  Since external agencies (Emergency Management Offices, State Police, etc.) are connected to the NAWAS network in its current form, coordination on NAWAS should be limited.
