A variety of changeable weather will affect the Lower Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas through Monday, April 28th. Most welcome will be a period of widespread rains, some which may be locally heavy, through early on the 28th. These conditions will be the first time that most areas of the Valley have received rain in the same time frame since January! Unfortunately, the rains may come at a price for some, as there is a risk of severe thunderstorms, particularly from late morning through late afternoon on the 27th. The main risk will be from potential hail of penny size or larger, as well as potentially damaging wind gusts of 50 mph or higher, especially during the late afternoon of the 27th.

Following the front, a blustery, wet night is expected overnight on the 27th and continuing into the early morning of the 28th. Gusty north winds up to 35 mph near the coast, and perhaps over 40 knots at times across the nearshore Gulf waters and Laguna Madre, will make for a rather chilly overnight compared to average temperatures this time of year. Boaters will see seas rise to over 10 feet quickly on Sunday night, and surf will become rough and confused for a brief time at the beaches into midday Monday.
