2.2 SSW Trinity
Representatives from the National Weather Service and Morgan County Emergency Management completed a survey of damage in the city of Trinity, AL.
The survey found evidence of an EF-0 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita scale, with highest winds of 65 mph. The damage was confined mostly to uprooted
trees and snapped limbs. One residence sustained some damage, mainly to sheds and fencing at the back of the property.
An upper level circulation or disturbance known in meteorology as a Mesoscale-Convective-Vorticity center tracked eastward through
the central Tennessee Valley during the morning hours. A moist an unstable airmass enabled rapid low-topped shower development
by late morning as this system tracked through the area. A brief weak tornado was sighted in Trinity. This was in close proximity to the
upper level circulation mentioned above. As this shower entered Madison, AL further to the east, a NWS employee observed thunder
being heard, likely from a cloud to cloud lightning flash. Otherwise, no other cloud to ground lightning was noted, making this tornado
an interesting phenomenon for further study. The University of Alabama-Huntsville ARMOR dual-polarization radar located at the
Huntsville International Airport was in close proximity to this tornado and identified a couple of small low-level circulations within a band
these showers, one in the vicinity of the tornado.

Mobile Bates Field
An F0 tornado first touched down in southwest Mobile county about 8 miles southwest of the Mobile Regional Airport. The initial
touchdown was near Jeff Hamilton Road, just to the east of Newman Road. The weak tornado moved across open fields and forest,
moving across Newman Road near the Branson subdivision. The tornado then moved through the subdivision, blowing down
several trees. Some homes were damaged as a result of the fallen trees, while other homes suffered roof damage due to the high
winds. The tornado then moved north and crossed Airport Boulevard just west of Newman Road. More trees were blown down
here, and several more homes suffered damage, mainly to roofs, from either fallen trees or high winds. The tornado then lifted back
into the cloud, about 5 miles southwest of the Mobile Airport. The line of thunderstorms that produced the tornado was associated
with the remnants of Tropical Storm Allison, which were moving east across the region. |

limb damage within a one mile radius. Dime sized hail accompanied the storm. South of Slocomb, damage was more severe.
Spotty tree damage began about 2 miles south along CR 85. The most danage occurred 1/4 mile east of the New Teamon Baptist
Church. Several large oak trees were uprooted, extensive tree limb damage, a mobile home roof damaged, and a barn sustained roof
and door damage. Two structures on CR 91 were damaged by fallen trees. One witness observed the tornado as 100 yards wide,
moving from NW to SE. Hail fell prior to the tornado passage. |
