The tornado touched down around just southwest of the intersection of AL-69 and CR-38, near Windham Springs. From there, it traveled northeast across the intersection, and then roughly parallel to CR-38 for about 5 miles, before lifting northeast of the Wiley Community. At least 5 structures were heavily damaged, including a church in Windham Springs and a general store in Wiley. At least 300 trees were either snapped or uprooted along the damage path.

This tornado is a continuation of a tornado that originally touched down in Lowndes County Mississippi. It It crossed into Alabama near Willie Greer Road, just north AL-18. From there, it continued to move east-northeast, remaining just north of AL-18 as it passed close to the town of Molloy. The tornado finally lifted near McNees Crossing Road, just northeast of Molloy. Along its path in Alabama, the tornado took the roof off of two homes, destroyed 2 wooden barns, moved the foundation of 2 mobile homes, and uprooted several huge trees.

An F3 tornado initially touched down just south of the Grove Home Park on County Road 16. The tornado then tracked north just east of County Road 65 to County Road 12, just southwest of Foley. The tornado blew down numerous trees, destroyed a manufactured home and damaged several others in the Grove Home Park. The tornado destroyed two large cement block buildings and damaged another three near County Road 12. A large panel truck filled with heavy tools was picked up and carried about 60 feet, and several other cars were thrown 15 to 25 feet. No injuries were reported.

An F3 tornado touched down just east of I-65 in Saraland near Shelton Beach Estates. The tornado skipped east northeast along the ground before lifting back into the cloud near U S Highway 43. Three homes were almost completely gone, three more suffered major damage and about sixty homes in the middle-class neighbourhood suffered some damage. Most of the damage was consistent with an F1 or F2 tornado. No one was injured. Several people knew they were under a tornado warning and were able to take cover before the storm struck. Most of the residents said they did not hear the familiar "Freight Train Sound" before the tornado struck.

4 fatalities and several injuries occurred as the violent tornado overturned 25 cars and a few trucks on the northern bypass. Damage was extensive along the entire path of the tornado. At least 20 homes were destroyed, 36 homes sustained major damage, 157 homes had minor damage, 9 mobile homes were destroyed, 8 businesses were destroyed, and numerous vehicles were destroyed.

A large part of a school was destroyed and several automobiles were destroyed. At least 40 homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed. Numerous trees were blown down.
1983 12 6 0251 Dallas F3 13.0 1 19 Near Selma
The tornado first touched down near Alabama Highway 22 just west of Selma and moved northeastward. The fatality occurred when the brick and concrete block wall of an apartment caved in on the couch where the victim was apparently sleeping. Seven students at Selma University received minor injuries when the roof and parts of the second floor of their dormitory was destroyed. The dorm was occupied by 50 students when the storm hit. The other injuries occured to people in their homes that were either damaged or destroyed. At least 103 structures were damaged or destroyed. Additional damage included a new car dealership in which buildings were damaged and 30 to 40 vehicles were destroyed.

The tornado struck a shopping center consisting of an E to W row of adjoining buildings along U.S. 78. The deaths and most of the injuries occurred when a grocery store in the direct path was destroyed. The windward wall apparently failed and the roof of the store collapsed inward. The grocery shelves kept the roof from crashing all the way to the floor and sveral hours were required for rescuers to reach all of the trapped victims. The 2 deaths were reported to have occurred in the rear or south part of the store. Three single famaily homes were destroyed and 14 were damaged. One apartment building was damaged. Three mobile homes were destroyed and 11 damaged. Three business buildings were destroyed and 9 damaged as well as 25 to 30 automobiles being either damaged or destroyed.

Several brick homes were flattened. At least 10 homes were destroyed and 10 mobile homes were demolished. 22 homes, 5 mobile homes, a grocery store, a church, and 2 chicken houses were all damaged. Several vehicles were damaged.

A manufactuing plant was extensively damaged and three workers were injured. The high school sustained damage in the stadium, bleachers, and concession stand. 14 trailers were destroyed and 20 were damaged.

One home was totally destroyed and at least 7 others were damaged. The Masonic Lodge, 3 trailers, 8 businesses, and two churches were damaged.
1982 4 26 1325 Lamar-Marion F3 12.0 0 0 Near Beaverton-Near Winfield
The tornado touched down near Beaverton in eastern Lamar county and moved almost due E along a track south of Guin to near Winfield in Marion county. A mobile home was blown away near Beaverton and a home was completely destroyed S of Guin. The only thing that remained was the front steps. Even the plumbing had been ripped out of the ground. Several barns and sheds were destroyed. Near Winfield, the tornado passed right in front of a 15 car funeral procession that was being escorted by the Winfield police chief. Trees were uprooted and there was damage to the Winfield City Park. Eyewitnesses in Winfield reported that 3 funnels could have been involved as the tornado moved through a wooded area between some homes. One inch hail was reported.

2 unoccuppied homes were leveled and 5 other homes received severe damage. Several other homes sustained roof damage and many trees and power lines were flattened.
1981 4 1 0215 Russell F3 3.5 2 23 Hurtsboro
Major tornado devastated Hurtsboro's business district and much of the residential area. One person was killed whe the storm destroyed their mobile home. Another was killed when their home was destroyed. Eight of the injured were admitted to hospitals. Damage was estimated at 8.5 million. About 80% of property in the city was damaged or destroyed. Twenty-five homes, 8 mobile homes and 25 businesses were totally destroyed. Forty-one homes and 10 businesses were heavily damaged. The tornado apparently touched down just W of the city limits and moved eastward through the central part of the city before lifting along Alabama Highway 26 E of Hurtsboro.

Damage estimated near $1,000,000 in southern and eastern sections of the Montgomery Metro area. Twenty people were injured, 1 seriously. In the Green Acres area, 7 homes were destroyed, 15 had major damage, and 30 had minor damage. In the Bellhurst subdivision, numerous homes sustained roof and tree damage. The Fieldcrest apartment complex sustained about $250,000 damage, with 4 units destroyed and 80 damaged. The tornado tracked northeastward for several miles from its touchdown in SE Montgomery, then moved NNE and partially aloft, touching down near the Tallapoosa River and continuing a short distance into Elmore County S of Wetumpka where an old unoccupied house was heavily damaged and trees were uprooted.

Tornado traveled NE along highway 411. One house destroyed and 2 had major damage. Three mobile homes, 7 barns, and 1 small business all destroyed.

The tornado struck with savage fury damaging 15 houses and 3 mobile homes. Two mobile homes were destroyed along with 6 barns and 2 sheds.

Many persons said they heard the tornado and took cover. The Eclectic City Hall clock stopped at 9:23 pm. Eight homes were completely destroyed with major damage to 10 and minor damage to 12. Seven mobile homes were demolished with major damage to 1 and minor damage to 2. Three businesses received major damage with damage to 6 barns and 6 boats. 8 cattle wre lost.

Intial damage was at Rock Stand where a barn was unroofed and trees down. Funnel then lifted and touched down at Tin Shop community when 2 trailers were destroyed and a house damaged. At the Highway community, 2 frame houses were destroyed killing 1 occupant and seriously injuring 2 others. At Haywood, a trailer and a house wre destroyed with heavy damage to another house, trailer, workshop and 5 barns. Near Moores Store and Bethal, 1 house and 2 trailers were damaged and 2 buildings destroyed. Remaining injuries were minor.

One large hangar and 46 aircraft were damaged. The weather office was partially unroofed. A trailer park was struck destroying 19 mobile homes. At least one home was totally destroyed and 67 homes were damaged. 2 motels and 28 businesses were damaged or destroyed.
