Weather Awareness Day at the Summit...October 13, 2002
The National Weather Service, in partnership with the Management Staff of the Summit Shopping Center, hosted Weather
Awareness Day on Sunday, October 13th. The event was held in front of Saks Department Store at The Summit, near Interstate 459 and
Highway 280.
Participants included the National Weather Service, Alabama Power, American Red Cross, Birmingham Fire, Trussville Fire,
Jeffferson County EMA, NBC-13, ABC-33/40, FOX-6 and CBS-42. Each vendor had a separate tent and provided useful information
with both demonstrations and brochures.
The theme of the event was increased public awareness about the Secondary Severe Weather Season across Alabama. This was
the first attempt at holding this type of event and it is hoped that it will become an annual event.
