ABSTRACT
The staff of the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Birmingham , Alabama will provide an overview of the numerous severe weather events from March 1, 2007. In the companion poster presentation we will summarize the nine tornados and associated supercells that occurred within our central Alabama county warning area. We will show damage photos and aerial assessments to provide insight into the newly developed Enhanced Fujita scale that was used to classify the damage from those tornados. There were five EF-1s, three EF-2s, and one EF-4. During the event the Birmingham office issued 51 tornado, 37 severe thunderstorm, and 6 flash flood warnings over a 16-hour time period with 67 local storm reports received to date, including a report of baseball-size hail.
A poster presentation was given at the Southeastern Coastal & Atmospheric Processes Symposium (SeCAPS) 2007.
