Storm Relative Velocity Loop
Description of this animation:
This is a loop of the storm relative velocity images (0.5 degrees elevation) from the WSR-88D at Hytop, Alabama (KHTX) on May 24, 2001. This animation shows the severe storm that moved across parts of eastern Madison and Jackson counties from 5:14 PM CDT (22:14 UTC) to 6:50 PM CDT (23:50 UTC). The storm produced an F1 tornado in the Apsel area of Jackson County.
Best rotational velocities occurred at 5:45 PM CDT (22:45 UTC), 30 knots and 5:50 PM CDT (22:50 UTC), 36 knots.
