The Alabama gravity wave event of February 22, 1998: A classic mesoscale forecasting challenge

The green line represents peak wind gusts in meters per second. ASOS has three pressure cells and these figures show the mean of the three values as an orange line. An exception to this would be at the Decatur and Evergreen ASOS sites where only two pressure cells were recording. The pressure trace is basically station pressure. The figures show that as the phenomena passed the observing site, the pressure fell rapidly with a corresponding peak in the wind gusts around or shortly after.

Please note that at the time the data was complied, the Birmingham, Anniston, Tuscaloosa ASOS sites were not commissioned ASOS sites.
