Tuscaloosa and Bibb County Tornadoes - February 13, 2007

A National Weather Service Storm Survey Team surveyed the damage in Tuscaloosa and Bibb Counties and found evidence of a strong EF1 tornado in southeastern Tuscaloosa and western Bibb Counties, and an EF0 in central Bibb County on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

Shortly before 6:00 PM CST…an EF1 rated tornado touched down in southeastern Tuscaloosa County in the Talladega National Forest. The tornado damage path was approximately 10 miles long and 400 yards wide at its widest point. The storm produced continuous damage along the entire 10 mile path. The heaviest damage was near the intersection of County Road 1 and US Highway 82 on the Bibb and Tuscaloosa county line. Several trailers, homes, barns and sheds were damaged along the path. Additionally, numerous trees were snapped off and downed. The tornado lifted just north of Eoline. Based on the damage, maximum sustained winds were estimated between 100 to 105 MPH.

Further to the east the same storm produced an EF0 rated tornado. The tornado damage path was approximately 7 miles long and 250 yards wide at its widest point. This tornado did not cause widespread damage along the whole 7 mile path, but there was evidence of sporadic building and tree damage along the entire path. The tornado touched down just west of County Road 26...north of State Highway 25...and continued across the Six Mile Community...before eventually lifting just west of Ashby. Based on the damage…maximum sustained winds were estimated between 70 to 80 MPH.

A Tornado Warning was in effect for Tuscaloosa County from 531 PM CST until 615 PM CST. A Tornado Warning was in effect for Bibb County from 605 PM CST until 645 PM CST. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued at 1250 PM CST and this watch was upgraded to a Tornado Watch valid from 505 PM CST until 10 PM CST.
