2010 Alabama Total Rainfall & Departures from Normal

This map depicts the yearly rainfall totals for 2010.  As you can see, there was quite a large spread in rainfall amounts for the year.  Totals ranged from just above 20 inches to more than 70 inches. East central Alabama received the lowest amount of rainfall (25-40 inches), which is roughly 20-25 inches below normal.  This has allowed severe and extreme drought conditions to persist in this part of the state.  On the other hand, parts of west Alabama have received near normal rainfall for the year.  Drought conditions in west central and north Alabama have improved significantly, and as of Dec 28th, conditions are listed as abnormally dry to normal for these areas.
