| The Amarillo NWS in cooperation with the Amarillo Department of Emergency Management and PANTEX conducted the biennial Severe Weather Workshop Saturday March 12th, at the Amarillo Civic Center Heritage Room in downtown Amarillo. The event was co-sponsored by local media stations KVII-TV, KFDA-TV, KAMR-TV, ClearChannel Radio, KGNC Radio, FASTSIGNS, and Wal-Mart. This year's theme "Tornadoes & Severe Weather in Your Backyard: A 50-Year History" focused on significant tornado and severe weather outbreaks across the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, the forecasting of tornadoes, and how the detection of tornadoes has evolved over the past 50 years.
