This year's Kids Weather Hour program
was a wonderful success! We here at the National Weather Service
would like to thank all of the participants who provided some fantastic
questions this year. This past school year, 14 schools, 20 teachers,
and 482 students participated in Kids Weather Hour. Since the program
began 3 years ago, well over 1,000 questions have been submitted
by elementary students and answered live on NOAA Weather Radio by
National Weather Service meteorologists. In addition, we have given
out over 50 free NOAA Weather Radios courtesy of BWXT Pantex . We
would like to thank Pantex for generously donated the weather radios
for the past 3 years. |

Each year, we place all
the students names into a drawing and then randomly select one boy
and one girl to win a brand new bicycle courtesy of Wal Mart. This
years winners were Matthew and Sarah. Matthew is a 5th grader in
Mrs. Rydbergs class at Highland Park Elementary school in Amarillo.
Sarah is 4th grader in Mrs. Heard's class at Reeves-Hinger Elementary
school in Canyon. Both students were completely surprised and very
excited to see their new bicycles. Especially Matthew who was attending
the school end of the year awards cerimony. Matthew recieved his
bicycle in front of a few hundred fellow Highland Park school students,
teachers, and parents.
We hope both kids enjoy their new bicycles this summer! Once again,
we would like to thank all the students who submitted questions
for the Kids Weather Hour Program. If you are interested in participating
in Kids Weather Hour next school year, please contact John Brost
at John.Brost@noaa.gov. |
