Below are the snow and ice totals for the winter storm that began during the early
morning hours on January 28 and ended by midday on January 29. Locations across the
Oklahoma Panhandle and northwest half of the Texas Panhandle generally received between
8 and 12 inches. The southeast half of the Texas Panhandle only received amounts of
4 to 8 inches. Locally higher amounts up to 14 inches were reported in portions of the
area. In addition to the snowfall, freezing rain and sleet created problems, especially
across the southern and eastern portions of the Texas Panhandle. A few locations in
the southeast Texas Panhandle received more than 1 inch of ice.
