Storm Reports and Rain Totals

September 16, 2010

On the afternoon of Thursday, September 16, 2010, thunderstorms developed along a stationary front in the southern Texas Panhandle. These storms quickly strengthened and became severe. There were multiple reports of hail and one report of a strong wind gust. The largest hail report was of grapefruit-sized hail at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Arguably the biggest impact of the storms was that the storms trained over the same areas resulting in very heavy rain. Amarillo was hit hardest by the heavy rain resulting in many reports of flash flooding.
