June 2011 Climate Records

AMARILLO
*The month of June will go down as the second warmest on record at Amarillo with an average temperature of 82.4 F. The warmest June on record remains 1953 when the average temperature was 83.3 F.
*There were only three days in June with below normal temperatures -- the 10th, 20th, and 21st. Additionally, these were the only days during the month when the high temperature failed to reach 90 F.
*The all-time warmest temperature ever recorded also occurred on June 26th when the high reached 111 F.

*Through June 30 of this year, there have been 16 days with high temperatures of at least 100 degrees at Amarillo.
*
The only time measureable rainfall occurred at Amarillo in June was on the 28th, but 0.49" was recorded. As a result, June only ended as the 7th driest month of record. The driest June on record continues to be 1953 when 0.01" was recorded.

BORGER
*The month of June will go down as the warmest on record at Borger with an average temperature of 85.2 F. The previous warmest June was 1953 with an average temperature of 83.3 F.
*The only day the average temperature was below was June 10th -- also the only day the high failed to reach 90 F.
*The all-time warmest temperature ever recorded occurred on June 26th when the high hit 113 F.
*Through June 30 of this year, there have been 15 days with high temperatures of at least 100 degrees at Borger.

Only 0.18" of rain was measured at Borger in June, which ended up being the fifth driest June on record. 2001 was the driest June on record when no precipitation was recorded. The second driest June was 1953 (Trace), the third driest June was 1998 (0.10"), and the fourth driest June was 1990 (0.12").

DALHART
*June of 2011 will go down as the third warmest on record at Dalhart with an average temperature of 79.2 F. The warmest June on record was 1953 with an average temperature of 80.7 F, and the second warmest June was 1952 with an average temperature of 79.3 F.
*There were also three days in June with below normal temperatures -- the 10th, 20th, and 21st. Including these three days, the high also failed to break 90 F on the 27th.
*The all-time warmest temperature ever recorded occurred on June 26th when the high reached 110 F.
*Through June 30 of this year, there have been 13 days with high temperatures of at least 100 degrees at Dalhart.

A total of 0.21" of rain fell at Dalhart in June, which ended up being the fourth driest June on record. 1990 was the driest June on record when no precipitation was recorded. The second driest June was 1973 (0.18") and the third driest June was 1952 (0.20").

GUYMON
*June of 2011 will go down as the third warmest on record at Guymon with an average temperature of 81.2 F. The warmest June on record was 1952 with an average temperature of 82.2 F and the second warmest June was 1953 with an average temperature of 81.8 F.
*There were also two days in June with below normal temperatures -- the 10th and 20th. Including these three days, the high also failed to break 90 F on the 21st and 27th.
*The all-time warmest temperature ever recorded occurred on June 26th when the high reached 113 F.
*Through June 30 of this year, there have been 15 days with high temperatures of at least 100 degrees at Guymon.

A total of 0.43" of rain fell at Guymon in June, which ended up as the third driest June on record. The driest June ever was 1952 when 0.02" of rain fell and the second driest June was 1953 (0.42").


For the period between January 1 and June 30, 2011 continues to be the driest start to a year on record at Amarillo, Borger, Dalhart, and Guymon. Through this period, Amarillo has recorded 1.17" of rain. The second driest year during this time period was 1953 with 2.88". Dalhart has received 0.82" of rain during this time period. The second driest year during this time period was 1953 with 2.47". Borger has received 1.43" of rain during this time period. The second driest year during this time period was 1953 with 2.17". Guymon has received 1.90" of rain during this time. The second driest year during this period was 2008 with 3.01".
