The overall synoptic regime near landfall was characterized by a ridge axis from west Texas into the Great Plains and the typical summer time Bermuda Ridge off the East coast of the United States.

Surface Pressure

The track of Dennis was generally north to northwest across western Cuba and into the Gulf of Mexico.  Heavy rain bands skirted the western Florida coast July 8th and 9th before making landfall on July 10th in the Central Gulf Coast.
