The New Year 2007 started off with significant flooding in the Dan River Basin as moderate to heavy rain fell across the foothills of western sections of Virginia fell on top of already very wet grounds. On the Dan River at Danville, the river rose quickly to near major flooding in 12 hours from the start of rise. This flow carried down the Dan causing moderate flooding near Paces, VA and South Boston, VA.
