Slide 23 of 32
AHPS provides forecasts of river levels and river flow volumes from days to several months in advance of the event. AHPS also provides new information on the accuracy of the forecasts.
This slide presents information on the forecasted river stage (river level), beginning one week from the time the forecast is made and going out 4 weeks. Within this bar chart, each bar identifies the likelihood for the river to exceed a particular level during each week throughout the time period. The colors on each bar define the likelihood of exceedence when compared to the river level identified on the vertical axis. The light blue region is for a 100 to 75 percent likelihood for exceedence. The yellow region is for a 75 to 50 percent likelihood. And, the deep blue region is for a 50 to 25 percent likelihood for exceedence. The maximum likelihood of occurance is represented at the 50 percent level.
