The River Status Map depicts all available observed and forecast data for ABRFC river forecast points. Single square icons depict stations for which no forecasts have been issued. When selected, the user is forwarded to the USGS website for current observed data. Note, not all sites have USGS data available. The nested square icons depict stations for which forecast guidance is available. The center square represents "current" observed conditions (latest observation in the past six hours). The outer square represents maximum forecast conditions in the next five days. Clicking on a nested square icon will forwarded you to the ABRFC forecast hydrograph for that station. Flood categories are assigned by the local NWS Service Hydrologist, and are depicted graphically on the forecast hydrograph.
The text-based guidance issued by the ABRFC uses Standard Hydrometeorological Exchange Format (SHEF) code and contains a time series of forecast river heights every six hours. There are two forecasts issued for each point; one with forecast precipitation included (the official guidance) and one without forecast precipitation. When applicable, the guidance also includes flood crest information and forecaster commentary. Graphically enhanced hydrographs, as well as the original text guidance, are available on this site. The ABRFC issues flood forecasts when the river is at or expected to be at a predetermined "action stage" (usually flood stage or 1-2 feet below). For specific locations, the ABRFC issues forecasts daily, whether or not flooding is expected. Please click here for more information on how we make our forecasts. The ABRFC's text and graphical forecasts are internal NWS products for use by NWS WFO's (National Weather Service Weather Forecast Offices) and various other entities. Official river forecasts/warnings are those issued by the appropriate NWS WFO. Also, please note that flooding may still be forecast or occurring even if there are no products listed or displayed on the map. The ABRFC also provides raw model output for use primarily by local WFO's and other cooperating agencies. Please read the disclaimer before viewing any raw model hydrographs. |
