NWS Albuquerque works closely with county
emergency managers and officials across the northern two-thirds of
New Mexico to organize and schedule spotter training classes each
year. The training sessions are free and the public is
invited. For a schedule of upcoming spotter classes, please
check the table below. Training sessions last about 2
hours and include the basics of thunderstorm development, severe
thunderstorm structure, storm spotting techniques and procedures,
as well as hazardous weather safety and preparedness. NWS
operations and procedures to include amateur radio nets are also
discussed. Each class is tailored to your local area.
For a preview of some of the material and a local spotter
guide sheet, check our SKYWARN page
under the header "Becoming a SKYWARN Spotter."
