In the Rio Grande Valley, below normal DJF precipitation occurs during La Niña events, with the southern station, Socorro, averaging 75% of normal while Albuquerque averages 80% of normal. Note that the last six La Niña winters in Albuquerque have been at least 25% drier than normal.
