April 17-21, 2006
|

| The Albuquerque National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office has proclaimed April 17-21, 2006 as " Weather Data Awareness Week." Each day during the week, the Albuquerque NWS will be issuing Public Information Statements (PNS) to explain the value of weather data, describe recently implemented data sources, and introduce upcoming data modernization. | ||
| Background: Weather data comes from a wide variety of sources, including satellite, remote sensors, radars, automated observing stations, and humans. Each and every day, a wide spectrum of users access these weather data to solve problems and plan their lives. During the course of the week, we will describe how meteorological data are collected and used to promote the welfare of our nation. | ||
| Open House: The week will culminate in a special open-house on Friday, April 21st. Albuquerque city rainfall observers and cooperative observers from the northern two-thirds of New Mexico will tour the NWS office in Albuquerque. It will be a unique gathering for a special group of dedicated volunteers. If you are unable to make it this year, rest assured another open-house will be in the works for 2007. We plan to make Weather Data Awareness Week an annual event. | ||
