Water Year 2005 Precipitation (October 2004 - January 2005)
Precipitation thus far this water year ranges from 139 percent of normal in the Northwest Plateau climate division to 256 percent of normal in the Southeastern Plains climate division. The statewide average for the current water year through January was 167 percent of normal.

January 2005 precipitation ranged from below normal in northwest Sandoval and northeast McKinley Counties and in parts of eastern Lincoln County, to well above normal or even new record highs for the month. Statewide, January 2005 was the third wettest January on record.

Both Bell Ranch (in eastern San Miguel County) and Amistad 5SSW (southeast Union County) reported record January precipitation. Albuquerque International Airport, Espanola, Los Alamos, and Mosquero 1NE all reported either their second or third wettest January ever.

Locations reporting the most precipitation during January were: Chama (5.28 inches, wettest since 1980), Dulce (3.87 inches, 273 percent of normal), Wolf Canyon (3.77 inches, wettest since 1952), Mimbres Ranger Station (3.41 inches, 3rd wettest January).

Minimal precipitation fell during January at Star Lake (northeast McKinley County, 0.30 inches), and Picacho (southeast Lincoln County, 0.32 inches).
