The year 2000 was characterized by much warmer and generally drier than normal weather at the Albuquerque International Sunport.
TEMPERATURES
The graphic below shows the average temperature for each month in Albuquerque during the year 2000 and compares them to normal. Ten of the 12 months experienced above normal average temperatures. Only October and November were below normal. May 2000 led the way with an average temperature 6.5 degrees above normal (70.5 degrees), making it the 2nd warmest May on record. January was mild even for Albuquerque with an average temperature 6.1 degrees above normal (40.9 degrees), which was the 5th warmest January on record. Other much warmer than normal months were February, April and September. Only November was considerably cooler than normal during the year. The average temperature for the entire year was 58.5 degrees, which was the 5th warmest year on record since 1892! The all time warmest year on record was 1954, when the average temperature registered 59.5 degrees.

PRECIPITATION
The graphic below illustrates the monthly precipitation for Albuquerque and a comparison to normal. Eight of the 12 months were drier than normal, most notably the spring and summer months of April through September. Only 2.56 inches of rain fell during this six month period, with June the only month with above normal rainfall, and only by 0.13 inches. Normally 5.62 inches of rain falls from April through September, which includes the "monsoon season" of July into early September. By far the wettest month was October, when 2.66 inches of precipitation fell. This was more than double the next wettest month, March, which recorded 1.27 inches of precipitation. For the year, 8.24 inches of precipitation was recorded, compared to the 30 year normal of 8.90 inches.
Snowfall during 2000 was close to normal, although most of the snow fell on a single day. The total of 10.8 inches was close to the 30 year normal of 11.4 inches. December 26th recorded most of the yearly snowfall when 6.1 inches fell at the Albuquerque Airport. Measurable snow was only reported on seven other days.
